The heartwood of goats, they don’t come sweeter than these. Except for Toggenburgs , but they’re basically the unicorns of goats — everyone has seen one, no one knows where. Nubians are wicked smart too though, except when one isn’t. They are also very fragile. You could shot a Boer out of a cannon and it walk away and start eating something, but every Nubian I have had is like a malnourished cancer patient. They’re worth the work though and appear to cross breed nicely with Boers but not sure how this will impact milk yet.
The Nubian breed is a combination of English mutants from all over the world. It was first registered in 1896. The Nubian variants have been immigrating to United States since 1896. Today it is the most popular Dairy breed in the United States. The Nubian variants are frequently used for meat and milk, anecdotally I like their personalities. They are the natural comedians of the caprines. The Boers are lovely but humorless, probably because so many people look at them like the witch measured Hansel in the Grimm Fairy Tale. Conversely, Nubians that manage to survive Boer dominated environments are all sweet sarcasm and wit. Boers see humans as bugs to be swatted away, Nubians do a little soft shoe shuffle and make eye contact with a little mock nay.
