The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters for
Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (AI) announced today [26 Mar 2025] that an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 occurred at
a laying hen farm in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province. This is the
43rd case that occurred at a poultry farm nationwide during the
2024-2025 epidemic season. The farm raised about 100 000 chickens.

The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters is
deploying an initial response team to the site to take quarantine
measures such as access control, culling, and epidemiological
investigation. In addition, 29 poultry farms within the quarantine
area will be inspected in detail and roads around migratory bird
arrival areas and reservoirs nationwide will be disinfected.

The number of laying hens culled this month [March 2025] due to the
outbreak of highly pathogenic AI was 1.69 million, which is about 2.2%
of the total laying hens (77.58 million). The Ministry of Agriculture,
Food and Rural Affairs assessed that the impact of the outbreak of
highly pathogenic AI on egg supply and demand is low.
