What Dr. King Understood

I once saw a copy of Dr. King’s schedule in a book or something. My jaw dropped. I had never seen anything like it. I knew then although I totally understood his mission and tried to emulate it — well I know then how insignificant I was. The man was triple booked all over the world. Who would argue he was loved and respected. People trusted him. Why?

It’s not incomprehensible. He was loved because he listened to his God. He looked at Jesus and said where are his prophets today. Ah yes, Thoreau and Hugo are her/his prophets, Gandhi is her/his missionary. They are just crystallized examples. Dr. King actually saw God in everybody, even the people that hated him for his phenotypes.

Despite of his “success”. The fact that he was murdered is proof of the hate people bore him and the continuation of his vision of love is proof his revolution was true.

People say American hegemony is ending. I say fine. The sad part is it was capitalism that fermented Trumpism and Dr. King’s mission.

We all have a light in us. Every living thing matters. There will always be darkness as well. I see wealthy and powerful people today who have nothing meaningful to say and they are paid thousands to say it. That’s not progress, it’s etiology of disease. The current system of government fuels this problem. This is why we started The Epinhood.

This is my why. When I first understood the true power of Dr. King’s heart and words I literally ran out and started sharing his testament of love with anyone who would listen. It was Dr. King that allowed me to see Dr. Farmer in Haiti.

Dr. King also spoke of unfulfilled dreams. I realize I will never be heard like Dr. King and Dr. Farmer were heard. I know how small I am and I appreciate my smallness. However, my insignificance also allows me to remain free to follow my own heart. Like a bacteria I actually understand Natural Selection.

I know we are living in the age of Trumpism. It doesn’t have to be that way though. We have the models to find our way back to the time when solidarity actually made a difference for the good.
