Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 outbreaks have been reported in poultry farms in Chiba and Aichi prefectures, Japan. The outbreaks, detected through increased mortality and confirmed through RT-PCR and rRT-PCR, have led to stamping-out measures and movement restrictions. The virus was confirmed as H5N1 by the National Institute of Animal Health (NIAH).
