I am reaching out to anyone who cares about NASA, Science, and Health.
The President and GOP allies want to eliminate NASA’s Physical and Biological Sciences divisions. Personally this will negatively affect my own dissertation research into aging and spaceflight.
Their proposed cuts represent a 75% reduction in funding for space exploration and American astronauts.
If you do not think this is right we are asking you to please send the letter below to your representatives. Do not be afraid, let’s standby for this critical area of science.
Dear Representative/Senator ______________:
As your constituent, I urge you to support research so that the USA can remain a global leader in science and spaceflight. The current proposed Presidential Budget Recommendation sets forth a shift of investment towards space exploration but with insufficient support for the Biological and Physical Sciences research necessary to keep our astronauts safe during long duration missions to the Moon and Mars. The federal government has an integral role in this endeavor. Therefore, I ask that you oppose cuts that undermine scientific progress and, instead, support a 20% increase in the budget for the Biological and Physical Sciences Division within NASA’s Science Mission Directorate (SMD).
Funds for this Division enable American scientists and explorers to not only push the frontiers of human biology but also develop treatments here on Earth. The federal government’s investment in NASA’s research must be sustained in order to translate today’s scientific findings into tomorrow’s treatments for patients. Your district houses XXX institutions that belong to a nation-wide network of researchers contributing to cutting edge scientific discoveries in addition to the economic well being of the region.

A federal investment in Biological and Physical Sciences research is an investment in the health and economic future of our great nation, a means to ensure the safety of our astronauts, and to keep the USA at the forefront of space research. Please make this research a higher priority. There are currently “Dear Colleague Letters’ available for co-signers to access on Quill that specifically request for support for NASA Science budgets and BPS specifically. We are requesting that you consider co-signing these letters to demonstrate your support for this important work and the benefits it brings to our local economy.
