Mexico on Sunday [29 Oct 2023] reported the 1st case of highly
pathogenic AH5 bird flu in a farm in Sonora, the Secretariat of
Agriculture confirmed.

In a press release, the Secretariat said a group of technicians from
the General Directorate of Animal Health are presently diagnosing the
situation and rolling out anti-epidemic measures to contain the
spread.

It also explains the National Service of Agri-Food Health, Safety and
Quality (Senasica) labs are currently carrying out tests to have more
data on the pathogen and to verify the vaccine applied in 2022 is
effective.

The General Directorate of Animal Health declared a definitive total
quarantine for the affected farm and an internal quarantine for the
state of Sonora.
