PRO/AH/EDR> Avian influenza (27): USA, multiple states, poultry

Multiple states in the USA are reporting outbreaks of avian influenza (H5N1) in poultry flocks, including Michigan, Georgia, New York, and Connecticut. The virus has also been detected in wild animals and domestic pets, leading to concerns about potential transmission to humans. While the risk to public health remains low, authorities are implementing quarantine measures, testing, and preventive protocols to control the spread of the virus.

The USDA has confirmed H5N1 avian influenza in multiple states, prompting reminders for poultry farmers to increase biosecurity measures. Connecticut has reported two cases of H5N1 in backyard flocks, leading to the euthanasia of all infected birds. While there have been no human cases, the CDC continues to assess the risk to the general public as low.
