PRO/AH/EDR> Avian influenza (40): Japan, HPAI H5N1, poultry, spread, WOAH

Japan is experiencing a resurgence of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) H5N1, with new outbreaks reported in January 2025. The virus has been detected in layer farms, leading to the culling of millions of birds to control the spread. The World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) is monitoring the situation and has implemented control measures, including movement restrictions and surveillance.
