The French health authorities have announced a noticeable increase in
the number of measles cases since the beginning of 2025 as compared to
2024, and most of these cases were related to the spread of measles in
Morocco.
According to the Regional Health Agency (ARS), 13 cases have been
registered in several regions of France since the beginning of 2025,
and they were imported from or linked to cases from Morocco, compared
to 26 cases for the whole of 2024. Between 2024 and 2025, the total
number of imported or related cases has reached 39.
The same agency, ARS, has revealed in a circular directed to health
professionals that the measles virus is specifically targeting
children and youth: 12 cases were registered among children under 5,
while 20 cases were registered in adolescents. Of these, 23 were not
previously vaccinated against measles, while the vaccination history
of 9 cases was unknown.
