A total of 97 cases of measles have been recorded in Jordan since April [2023], according to Raed Al-Shboul, the Secretary-General of the Health Ministry for Primary Health Care and Epidemiology.
Shboul said on [Tue 20 Jun 2023] that these cases were identified in Irbid, Mafraq, Zarqa, and Amman. He emphasized that the disease affected only individuals who did not receive the measles vaccination during childhood.
He highlighted that 96% of the Jordanian population has received the measles vaccination in schools and healthcare centers. The Ministry of Health is actively monitoring all reported measles cases throughout Jordan.
Shboul lastly added that the Ministry of Health has coordinated with the National Center for Epidemic Control and all relevant authorities to launch a national campaign to raise awareness about the importance of measles vaccination.
