A team from the district health department reached Tutijharna village
in the Tilaiya panchayat of Gomia block on Monday [22 May 2023] after
several people, including children, reported to have contracted

“We have gathered samples for testing. Since the doctors on the team
have preliminarily diagnosed it as measles, we have started treatment.
Additionally, a WHO [World Health Organization] team has also visited
the area and implemented necessary measures,” said Abhay Bhusan
Prasad, civil surgeon of Bokaro.

The affected individuals, particularly the children, are experiencing
symptoms such as vomiting, abdominal pain, fever, headache, and red
rashes on their bodies. Treatment has started in the village to
prevent further spread of the disease.

[HT], a villager, said, “The outbreak started in our village last
week, rapidly infecting both children and elders.”

The WHO team, in collaboration with the local health department,
conducted examinations of the patients in Tutijharna on Monday [22 May
2023]. Measles vaccinations are being administered. Furthermore,
efforts will be made to determine whether there is a new variant of
measles present in the region.
