I was reading Ann Druyan and Stalin’s perspective towards scientific research and was reminded about Trump’s proposed changes and suddenly it occurred to me. What do people think of Stalin today? They think he was a despicable. This brings me peace. Yes it is highly likely that Trump is hell bound. However, we can’t know that for sure. All we can know is that faith in ideas tested through rigorous experimentation and observation is always redemptive if true, and we have plenty of observations and experimental evidence about happens when despots try to govern the scientific method.
Bottom line, tyrants are always refuted. Knowledge has and will continue to conquer fear. All that science requires is humility and integrity and not making the same mistakes over and over again.
Trump will try but Science will defeat him too. Maybe not American Science, but the world defeated Stalinism, not with bullets, but reason and we will defeat Trumpism too.
