Please, please, please NYT, BBC, et al don’t just tell the same story over and over again. Be revolutionary with your privileged perspective. The airport scene is awful, that’s good to know. However structurally terminals are uniquely under populated and single leveled in design. They are also buildings more likely to be constructed with appropriate materials and upgrades in engineering. Go into the streets, find residential, educational, and commercial multilevel buildings. Why are there 20 police officers pushing people back for every 1 rescue worker? How many rescue workers are there? Why aren’t cops being trained to rescue on the scene?
Let this be the mantra and driver of reporting.
Humans can only survive ONE DAY in shelters without protection from extreme temperatures, and access to oxygen.
Humans can only survive ONE WEEK without water.
Humans can only survive ONE MONTH without food.
Every police member should be a brigade of water right now. Why wasn’t more rescue equipment and personnel there yesterday?
Who is on ground and where? What is the status of each building? Where are the shelters? How do people get to them? Who is counting everything that matters most with each second forward?
Every photo should be a baseline scene assessment or response status update of lives saved and lost.
Make this the last shoddy reporting of a massive earthquake, especially given Venezuela is supposed to be a U.S. protectorate right now.
They should have a New York response.
